Meet BluPlanet's Business Development Team
Responsible for our sales, marketing, customer service, and more, this team puts the “business” in business development. The BluPlanet Business Development Team is crucial to our ongoing growth and success. In addition to managing many of our core processes, these individuals work closely with our Operations Team and all other stakeholders to keep the BluPlanet ship sailing smoothly! We are proud to say that our entire Business Development team is local (in Calgary). We like to think of this as a differentiator, as it allows us to dedicate equal time and effort to each client. Not only does this mean we are more prompt in assisting clients with their waste management needs, but also that we are able to build long-lasting relationships with our customers. Without further adieu, let’s meet them!
Nelson Berlin
Can you believe that Nelson runs the Sinister 7 every year?! With mountainous ambition like that, it should come as no surprise that Nelson has a deep love for anything related to nature and adventure. Hiking, climbing, kayaking - you name it, he loves it!
Nelson and his wife (hi, Stephanie!) used to partake in a multi-day kayaking trip every single year (their favourite locations thus far have been Desolation Sound and Telegraph Cove). Now with two little ones at home, he cannot wait to start taking them on outdoor adventures and introducing them to nature - think about how fun the future kayaking trips will be! Nelson is also an avid hunter and gardener and is passionate about providing himself and his family with as much food as he can on his own.
Nelson joined BluPlanet Recycling after completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and Communications. With a recent move from Victoria, British Columbia, he was interested in becoming involved with a sustainable company. Enter, BluPlanet! When Nelson joined BluPlanet nine years ago, the company was much smaller than it is today. He started out as a driver and progressed in his career as the company grew. Today, Nelson is BluPlanet’s Business Development Manager.
You may be surprised to learn that although Nelson was born in Edmonton, he was raised in Chicago and Portland.
What’s on his bucket list? Venturing up to Northern Canada to see Narwhals!
Katie Bertram
Katie is BluPlanet Recycling’s resident outdoor addict - she’s even running the Sinister 7 this year! To say that Katie is obsessed with climbing is an understatement. Her goal is to one day live in Turkey and climb all year (go, Katie)!
Katie was drawn to BluPlanet after completing her Bachelor of Science in Geology at the University of Calgary, as she was passionate about being part of a local, sustainable, and certified B Corp. Currently in a Sales and Marketing position, Katie values the transparency, reliability, and sustainability initiatives that are core to BluPlanet, and she is grateful to be on the greatest team in the industry! Katie also holds her Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® which she received in 2020.
When she isn’t working or climbing, Katie is likely drinking hot tea or basking in the sun on a rock somewhere with her dog and best furry friend, Seven.
Greg Mroczek
Greg joined BluPlanet Recycling in 2018 as a Customer Service Representative and moved into a sales and marketing role shortly thereafter. As a leader in Sales and Marketing at BluPlanet, Greg is responsible for helping clients implement and improve upon waste services. He is passionate about connecting with like-minded local businesses that share similar sustainability goals.
Similar to BluPlanet’s core values, Greg is passionate about helping his community. He is an active volunteer at The Alex and Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids. He also coaches youth wrestling.
Greg is a Flames fan through and through, so you’d be shocked to learn that he cannot skate (it’s like watching Bambi on ice)! Hopefully, he gains some skill in this area soon, because Greg’s dream is to travel to Antarctica.
When he’s not busy talkin’ garbage, you can find Greg at Monogram drinking his favourite coffee (a medium roast drip, black), playing soccer (he’s played for 20+ years), or cooking (he can make delicious pierogies and a mean carbonara). He also enjoys traveling, with his favourite destination to date being scuba diving in the French Riveria. And, wherever you are in Canada, be sure to keep your eyes out for Greg, because his goal is to bike across the country!
Greg has a Bachelor of Management from the University of Lethbridge, where he majored in Management and earned a double minor in Supply Chain and Social Responsibility. He also holds his Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)®.
Quinn Fulton
New to the waste management industry, Quinn is a customer service veteran. With 8 years spent working in customer service, we are so grateful to have her on our team!
Quinn received her degree in Addictions and Community Services and dedicated 6 years to working closely with vulnerable women at the YWCA. She looks forward to assisting BluPlanet Recycling in achieving its sustainability and community outreach goals.
A certified plant lover, Quinn has 22 houseplants! Her favourite? Her cherished Oxalis. Quinn’s additional interests (other than plants of course!) include EDM shows, dancing, and cooking.
Oh, and don’t forget to prepare yourself for serious laughter when you’re around Quinn, because she’s definitely the funniest person in the office!
